Como parte de nuestra historia de procesos que marcaron importancia sobre derechos LGBTI en Paraguay es importante que el mundo sepa que pasaba en Paraguay 10 años antes que el famosa tragedia de Stonewall en New York o en otros importantes hechos.

Aquí festejamos el 30 de setiembre como día nacional del Orgullo LGBTI por estos hechos.

Primera manifestación gay por el respeto de los DDHH en Paraguay

Tras la muerte de Bernardo Aranda en Setiembre de 1959, el Gobierno paraguayo arresto a un centenar de varones gay para encontrar culpables sin orden judicial, torturando a los mismos solo por ser gay. Un grupo de personas gay envía una carta al Diario “El País” exigiendo respeto a los DDHH e su individualidad.

First Public Action for Gay Human Rights in Paraguay

After the death of Bernardo Aranda in September 1959, the Paraguayan government arrests a hundred gay men and find them guilty without warrants, torturing them just for being gay. A group of gay people sent a letter to the Daily “El País” pleading for respect for human rights and their individuality.
